Sailing & Boating

On the water since Scouts

Boating the North and South Carolina coasts and inland lakes for as long as I can remember — and expanding onto bigger boats one certification at a time.

Now

Teaching Scouts to sail Sunfish in our troop, and expanding onto larger boats.

I’ve been boating along the North and South Carolina coasts and on inland lakes my entire life. I learned to sail as a Boy Scout and later spent a summer teaching sailing at Wright’s Lake Scout Camp in Michigan. At Michigan State University I joined the intramural sailing club and sailed with the school’s team in the Midwest Collegiate Sailing Association.

I took a break from sailing but kept powerboating after returning to North Carolina, and in the last few years I’ve been back on small boats teaching Scouts in our troop to sail Sunfish — the same boat I first learned on.
